How to Recognise Quality CBD (and Avoid Poor Products)

The CBD market is vast, and not all products are equal. Between a well-grown flower and a low-grade product, the difference is visible, noticeable in the aroma, and readable on the label. Here are simple, honest pointers to recognise quality CBD, without jargon and without false promises.

01

What Does Quality CBD Actually Mean?

The quality of a CBD product does not rest on a single detail, but on a coherent whole: a clear origin, a healthy appearance, a genuine aroma, a stated CBD level without exaggeration, and a THC content below 0.3%, in line with European regulations.

One important point from the start: a good seller makes no promises about health effects. That is actually prohibited. Quality is judged on concrete facts (cultivation, appearance, aroma, compliance), not on promises.

02

Appearance: What Your Eyes Tell You

With a flower, good density, visible trichomes (the small crystals that cover it) and a vivid colour are positive signs. By contrast, a flower that is too dry and crumbles to dust, or one that is damp, with stains or a stale smell, should be avoided.

With a resin, look at the uniformity of the texture and the consistency of the colour. A quality resin works cleanly and releases a clear, distinct aroma, not a chemical or plastic smell.

03

Aroma: The Most Honest Signal

Aroma is often the best indicator. Quality CBD smells good and smells strong: citrus, pine, fruit, spice or floral notes depending on the variety. These aromas come from terpenes, the natural aromatic compounds of hemp.

Be cautious if the smell is bland, reminiscent of hay, or has a chemical edge. This is often a sign of careless cultivation, a failed drying process or poor storage.

04

Origin and Transparency

A serious seller is transparent: they clearly state the origin, the cultivation method (for example, greenhouse-grown) and the CBD level. At BeBud, we work with a traceable supply chain, direct from the producer, which lets us know exactly where each variety comes from.

By contrast, a complete absence of information about the origin, or vague communication, should put you on alert.

05

CBD Level and Legality (THC Below 0.3%)

The stated CBD level should remain credible and consistent with the product. Extravagant figures on a standard flower are a bad sign.

On the legal side, the rule is simple in France: the product must contain less than 0.3% THC to be compliant. A serious seller respects this threshold and states it clearly. Products are reserved for adults.

06

Pitfalls to Avoid

An unusually low price often conceals poor quality: per gram, a good flower has a real cost. Also watch out for empty product pages with no information about origin or CBD level.

Finally, avoid any seller who promises health benefits, relaxing or therapeutic effects. Not only is this prohibited by regulations, it is also the sign of an actor who is not playing fair.

Questions fréquentes

How do you recognise a good CBD flower?

A good flower is dense, covered in trichomes, with a vivid colour and a clear, pronounced aroma. It is neither so dry that it crumbles to dust, nor damp, and shows no stains or stale smell.

Is cheap CBD always poor quality?

Not necessarily, but an unusually low price is a signal worth watching. A well-grown flower has a real production cost. A price that seems too good is often accompanied by a drop in quality or transparency.

How do you tell if a CBD resin is good quality?

Look at the uniformity of the texture, the consistency of the colour, and above all the aroma, which should be clear and natural. A chemical or plastic smell is a bad sign.

Is the stated CBD level reliable?

With a serious seller, the stated level is credible and consistent with the product, and the legal THC threshold below 0.3% is respected and clearly indicated. Extravagant figures should raise suspicion.

Must good CBD contain less than 0.3% THC?

Yes. In France, a CBD product must contain less than 0.3% THC to comply with regulations. This is a mark of seriousness as much as of legality. Products are reserved for adults.
